Happy Holidays from ROE 51

December 2024
you serious clark

As we approach the holiday season, I’m reminded of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, one of my favorite Christmas classics, and how much it mirrors the dedication and persistence that you show every day. In the movie, Clark Griswold embarks on a journey to create the perfect Christmas for his family — despite everything going wrong, from the lights malfunctioning to the disaster of a family gathering. Through his relentless drive, Clark learns valuable lessons, faces countless challenges, and ultimately experiences the magic of the holiday season, all while keeping his sense of humor and love for his family intact.

Like Clark, you show that same kind of dedication. You put in the hard work, even when it feels like things are going off the rails. Whether it's managing the chaos of a classroom, navigating the unique needs of each student, or simply staying positive in the face of daily challenges, your persistence and care make all the difference.

The holiday season reminds us of the importance of finding joy in the moments, even when things don’t go according to plan, much like Clark's ability to keep his Christmas spirit alive despite everything that goes wrong. You may not always see the immediate results of your efforts, but trust that your influence reaches far beyond the classroom. Just like Clark’s holiday chaos, sometimes the most meaningful impacts are those that unfold in unexpected ways.

Thank you for your continued dedication, humor, and the warmth you bring to your classrooms. I hope this holiday season gives you the well-deserved rest, joy, and time to recharge, knowing how much you are appreciated.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Shannon Fehrholz, Regional Superintendent

Upcoming Administrator Academies

Do you need an administrator academy to continue evaluating teachers or administrators or to fulfill your renewal requirement for licensure? Sign up for an upcoming administrator academy here.

Reminder

Please remember that if you are working in an administrative position you must complete one administrator academy per fiscal year in order to successfully renew your Professional Educator License. If you miss an administrator academy, you will owe the academy you missed in addition to a penalty academy for that year. It is recommended administrators review their ELIS account on a regular basis to ensure compliance with ISBE. A common mistake made is administrators not completing their evaluation survey. The evaluation survey must be completed in ELIS prior to credit being awarded for the academy completed.

A busy semester is coming to an end at our ROE 51 alternative education programs. Some of the highlights include:

-The addition of two part-time counselors to assist both academic and social emotional issues as they arise. We welcome Nancy Lamkey and Jamie Yates to our programs.
They will provide a much needed boost in services as we continually work with our at-risk population

-SCLA and Crossroads Academy have both attended several career/educational exploratory opportunities this semester. In October, students attended the Captial Area Education Fair sponsored by the ROE. Over 75 college recruiters were in attendance to talk to students from area high schools.

-Alternative Education students also attended a career event hosted by local unions. The annual Building and Trades Show was held in November at at the Convention Center in downtown Springifeld. Many local contractors we on hand to discuss careers in the trades as well as providing information on how to become a union worker.

-Also in November, students were allowed to tour the Workforce Center and Health Occupation programs at LLCC where they were able to view all of the programs that LLCC offers. LLCC officials also took time to explain FAFSA and the entrance requirements to their various programs.

-If everything goes well during the final weeks, ROE 51 Alternative Edcuation programs will have 15 early graduates leaving us this semester. Congratulations and best of luck as you work to meet your future goals!

-The alternative education winter break will begin December 21st. Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 7th
